It was another cold track meet Saturday at George Walton Academy’s 2nd Annual Dawg Dash. The Lions continue to improve, setting season, personal, and school records in the process. Avery King cleared 5’6” to win the high jump and Myles Ailster 3-stepped his way to a best time in the 110 Hurdles. Ailster also ran a best time in the 300 Hurdles and is currently the top GISA seed in both events. Brian Borrero ran a personal best in the 400 and is currently the top GISA seed in that event.
The meet moved really quickly, which meant many athletes were running back-to-back events with little time to recover. Still, the Lions racked up quite a few season and personal best times. Gracie Nash and Grace Kelley both had a great day – running personal bests in the 100 and 200. Ryley Hampton finished 2nd in the 400 in a personal best time of 1:04 – just one tenth of a second out of 1st place.
At the end of the day, the boys’ team placed 2nd behind (very large) Discovery High School and the girls finished 4th, just 5 points out of 3rd!
Five of our middle school girls ran “exhibition” in several races and held their own against the much older high school competition. In fact, they ran “unofficial” Top 5 finishes in both the 800 and 1600 – Azalea Snell and Penelope Pourchier crossed the line 2nd and 4th, respectively, in the 800; Snell and Anna Meyers crossed the line 2nd and 5th in the 1600.
The Lions will compete in Sharpsburg next weekend before regrouping and dialing things in for region and state after Spring Break.
