Our 8th - 12th graders ran 5K in a tri meet with Prince Avenue and Athens Academy at Athens Academy on Saturday. This was a great opportunity to preview the region course.
Christopher Morton led the Lions with an 8th place finish in 19:45. Teagan Swanepoel placed 9th (20:21). Caleb Gary, Corbin Smith, and Luke Evans followed and the five ran well enough for a 2nd place team finish. Luke ran a big PR of over a minute! Corbin ran a great time of 21:48 in his first 5K attempt.
Azalea Snell won the girls race in a time of 20:22, followed by Penelope Pourchier (24:59). Chloe Helsens, Isabelle Gary, Presley Whitaker, and Emery Loyless worked well together and ran strong races. Chloe persevered through a tumble down down a steep hill and Emery had a great showing in her first 5K attempt.
The Lions will run this course again at the region meet in October with the goal of placing Top 4 as a team in order to qualify for the state meet.
