A three-game swing against south Georgia teams hasn’t been good for Loganville Christian.

The Lions lost their second straight Friday night, dropping a 13-10 setback to Brookwood at Warriors Stadium, Loganville Christian’s second straight setback after a 3-0 start to the season. The Lions lost to Southland 13-0 last week in Loganville.

Brookwood scored the go-ahead touchdown with 4:22 left, then kept the Lions out of the end zone with 10 seconds left to preserve the victory.

“No words, man,” Loganville Christian coach Patrick Stewart said. “Definitely not the players’ fault. … It’s my fault, I will tell you that. They played with the relentless effort we ask of them every day. So I'll take the blame on this one.

“We played unbelieveable. We played great, every aspect from special teams, offense, defense, there were no negatives. Coaches will take this one.”

Loganville Christian (3-2) forced three turnovers and all of its points came off turnovers. A blocked punt by Gavin Sharp that Austin Coleman scooped up and returned 20 yards for a score was the Lions’ only touchdown of the night.

After Brookwood scored on its opening possession, the Warriors (2-2) didn’t cross midfield until late in the fourth quarter on their final scoring drive.

Star of the game

Loganville's defense recovered two fumbles, including one by Lajalan Stephens and another by Jordan Jackson. Stephens’ fumble recovery led to a field goal, while Sharp blocked a Brookwood punt and Coleman scooped up the loose ball and rambled 20 yards for a touchdown to give the Lions their first lead at 10-7 with 3:33 left in the second quarter. It was a play that seemed to ignite some much-needed momentum for Loganville Christian who came out flat to start the contest. Other highlights include Cameron Lifsey helping the offense run the ball while Clayton Smith and Cole Pace took charge at the end of the game leading the offense.

Brookwood batted away a fourth down pass at the goal line with 10 seconds left to preserve the victory. The Lions were called for illegal procedure on the play, turning the ball over on downs.

Loganville Christian plays at Tiftarea at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27. Brookwood plays host to Heritage School at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4.
