On Tuesday, April 9th your Lady Lions faced off in pivotal region match verses Piedmont Academy. Confidence was high amongst the players but Coach Ernst was quietly hesitant. The team goal was set forth after Spring Break of finishing the season strong and on a positive note looking to go 5-0.
The pace of the game was slow at times but the Lady Lions held the share of possession and goal scoring opportunities.
After a 18 minutes into the first half Katherine Owen put the Lady Lions ahead with her team leading 5th goal. Emma VandenOever drove into the heart of Piedmont’s defense and slid the ball to Katherine who then buried it in the lower right corner. Katherine was given another opportunity soon after with beautiful cross for Sophomore Paxton Yancey but Katherine’s volley was just wide of the post. As the first half ended the Lions had a 1-0 lead.
With the start of second half the Lions came out with a purpose to finish off the game as soon as possible.
With the constant pressure on the Piedmont goal. The Lady Lions added a second with Piedmont conceding an own goal. (2-0)
Not but a few minutes later the Lions added to their total with Freshman Karah Paschal’s first goal of the season off of a Haley Herron corner. (3-0)
The Lions gave up a late conciliation goal off a crazy deflected shot but still ended up with 3-1 victory.
