V Girls Soccer vs Athens Christian School

Thursday’s night match up for the Lady Lions was an opportunity to get beck to their winning ways. They faced Athens Christian a stifling opponent that required OT to beat in their first region meeting.

The Lions took the lead early in the first half with a goal through senior Paxton Yancey from a great simple assist from Delaney Derry.( 1-0) ACS made some tactical adjustments and the game turned into a stalemate.

After halftime the Lions knew that a one goal lead would not do. Sure enough not even with five minutes played ACS tied it up with low shot to the far post. (1-1) The ladies regained their focus and began to take control of the game. Then Lions piled on the pressure and with that earned a penalty kick. Katherine Owen on her return from injury stepped and banged it home to give the Lions the lead. (2-1)

The Lions quickly added a third goal which came from a Haley Herron cross and once again on the other end was Bianca Calvo to knock it in and over the ACS keeper. (3-1)

The ladies were given the opportunity to add one more to the score line via another penalty kick. The ACS keeper made a great save to deny Katherine Owen the opportunity to score her second of the night.

The Lady Lions will be home to BCA on Tuesday.
