Lions run strong in their season opener at home

The LCA XC team hosted more than 25 schools and 500+ runners at the LCA XC Invitational last weekend. It was a great morning full of competition. The meet is run every year by parent volunteers and we are grateful for the commitment to the program. A special thank you to some football parents who came out to help and also Officer Vaughn who ensures that our runners are safe crossing the street.

The Lions had some great performances in their first meet of the season … for quite a few of our Lions, it was their first XC meet ever!

Varsity Boys – Strong races by all with Caleb Gary shaving 16 seconds from his time at this same meet last season. He was followed by Avery King, Tucker Echols (shaved 35 seconds from his time last year), and Sam Bach.

Varsity Girls – Chloe Helsens and Yarieli Aguilar both ran great races. Chloe snuck in to the Top 50 with a 49th place finish.

Middle School Boys – These guys came to run. Christopher Morton placed 5th, followed by Teagan Swanepoel and Bryce Brown in 7th and 9th. Corbin Smith shaved 1:20 from his time in 2017 and placed 15th. Jayden Scott, Bryce Richardson, Hank Snell, and Christian Poston ran great races as well – all 4 of these young men are brand new to XC and did a fantastic job in their first ever XC meet. Our boys team placed 2nd. Awesome!

Middle School Girls – Way to go! Our middle school girls placed FIRST with three in the Top 10. Azalea Snell won the middle school girls race and set a course record of 10:41. Penelope Pourchier and Anna Meyers finished in the Top 10, placing 2nd and 9th. Emery Loyless shaved 13 seconds off of her time from last season and placed 13th with 6th grader Ella Masterson right on her heels in 15th. McKenna Thacker and Laine Bullington ran strong races in their XC debut.

What is next in XC?

The team will travel to Gainesville on Thursday, August 29 for the War Eagle Invite and then to North Oconee on September 5.
