LCA XC: War Eagle Invite Recap

LCA XC traveled to Gainesville for the War Eagle Invitational at Chestatee Middle School on August 28. More than more than 20 GHSA schools and 1500+ runners competed in the meet. Middle School ran a hilly two-loop 2-mile race and varsity ran in an even hillier two-loop 5K course.

Our high school girls competed in the JV race and all placed Top 10! Chloe Helsens led the way with a 3rd place finish, with Ava Meier and Bailey Echols rounding out the top 5. Paxton Yancey was close behind in 8th place. Way to go, Lions!

Azalea Snell and Penelope Pourchier placed top 10 in the middle school girls race, finishing 4th and 7th. Anna Meyers and Elizabeth Bennett pushed each other to finish 13, 14 – again putting four of our middle school girls in the top 20. Catherine Bruno and Emery Loyless worked hard for 2-mile PRs, placing 70 and 71 out of 215 middle school girls! The middle school girls also took home the 2nd place team trophy (out of 15 teams)!

Our high school boys competed in the JV race where Caleb Gary and Tucker Echols both paced themselves perfectly for the tough second loop of the course – each moving up 20+ spots in that second loop. Caleb ran his way to 24th and Tucker (just over a minute back) was 61st out of 200+ high school runners.

The middle school boys continue to push each other to strong finishes. Blake Callaway led the middle school boys, finishing 23rd with Matthew Scruggs on his heels in 25th. Austin Spencer was a 20 seconds back from Matthew, finishing 31st. Teagan Swanepoel and Caden Lanier rounded out the middle school boys in 61st and 95th – out of a field of more than 225 runners!

The Lions will run again in the North Oconee Home Meet on September 6. Let’s go, Lions!
